This program is important in that learning English from native speakers is an all-round experience, it is an opportunity to correctly learn grammar, pronunciation and regular conversation. Students get practical exposure and learn English to the level of native speakers. The idea is to get students to become bilingual and no longer feel intimidated or shy to speak as they feel English is a foreign language.
My classroom is based on addressing the needs of each student. The first priority is to get them to converse by learning the basics i.e. grammar rules, phonetics and conversational skills. We will use songs, games, pictures, stories, and role-plays to learn so expect real-life simulations. As a teacher, I elicit answers from my students and have a ratio of 70-30 in speaking that is students speak more than the teacher.
My name is Shirley Nhemwa. I have over 6 years of experience as an ESL teacher. In my teaching years, I have acquired a TESOL and TEYL certificate. I have had the privilege of teaching young children from the age of 3 years all the way into adulthood my students have been from Turkey, Japan, Taiwan, China and Azerbaijan. I am a hard worker who is goal-oriented and prioritize in creating long-lasting relationships with my students because this has proven to improve their confidence and get them speaking. I believe English as a global language is a great skill to have and learning it as early as possible is beneficial. I look forward to seeing you in class and helping you grow in your English journey.
